Where to stay and Play in the MIA

If you are thinking of a place to visit to kick off your summer then get it started in MIAMI Florida for Memorial Day weekend. This is one the biggest weekends in the MIA! South Beach will be filled with celebrities, concerts, parties, contest, fashion shows and much more.  All of the weekend’s events happen on south beach three main streets Collins Ave, Washing Ave and Ocean Dr.  If you stay on any of these streets there is no need to obtain a rental car as all of the weekend’s events are in walking distance.
When planning a flight to Miami remember that you have two airports to choose from Miami International and Fort Lauderdale Airport.  Fort Lauderdale Airport is about 30 minutes from South Beach. However Miami Airport is 15 minutes from the South Beach area.  Flights seem to be cheaper when choosing Miami International Airport as this is a larger airport with more variety of airlines.
Some of my favorite places to stay while in Miami Beach are the Loews Miami Beach, Fontaine Bleau Hotel and the Holiday Inn Miami Beach.  All three are for different budget types but they all serve the same purpose of fun and relaxation! The Holiday Inn Miami Beach has the Holiday in name we have all grown to know with that touch of MIA to spice it up.  The Lowes Miami Beach has the words luxury written all over it. This hotel has Food Network Celebrity restaurants, boutiques, and an awesome pool bar.  Lastly the Fontaine Bleau Hotel is the Lowes Miami Beach times 10!  You will never leave the hotel! It has dining, pool, beach, bars and night clubs all under one roof.
When night falls make sure to visit all of the night clubs you have seen the celebrities hit on TV. Such as Mansions, Club Deep and Club BEDS. Also visit my personal favorite Wet Willies and have yourself a Octane margarita.
If you are all clubbed out make sure and enjoy some shopping at the Dolphin mall or Bay Harbor.  While at Bay Harbor you can also enjoy a lunch or dinner casino cruise. It’s a perfect way to dine, drink and win money! There is so much to do in Miami that you can’t do it all in one weekend.

The NO, A and A Travel Style!

If you are looking for a vacation filled with great food, great shopping, and great night life then New Orleans is the place for you.  New Orleans is the place that has a parade any day of the week. The food is amazing and like nothing you will ever eat and the clubs close when the last person leaves.

One of the best things about visiting New Orleans is that it is in driving distance for me in Columbus, GA.  It is merely a 5 hour drive from home.  I have stayed in a number of hotels in New Orleans.  I usually try to stay in the Canal Street area.  Some of my hotel recommendations are the Bourbon Orleans Hotel (www.bourbonorleans.com), The JW Marriott (www.marriott.com/NewOrleans) and the W French Quarters.  The main areas to stay while in New Orleans are Bourbon Street, Canal Street and Poydras Street.

Bourbon Street has most of the New Orleans night life located all in one place. You can visit a bar, a night club, a dance club, a jazz club, a strip club all on one street.  This is the place to stay for the party animal.  On my last stay in New Orleans I visited some of the night spots on Bourbon Street. I was having such a great time that I looked out the window and thought I saw the sun coming up. So I asked the bartender what time does the club close. She laughed and said “when the last person leaves”.  After enjoying a few more songs and spirits I walked out the club and sure enough it was 7 am.  I have never had so much fun!

Canal Street is the famous street everyone thinks of when they think of New Orleans.  This street is lined with shopping and Gumbo or Po’Boys on every corner.  The best part about this street is the TROLLEY CARS.  The trolley cars only cost one dollar to ride and you can practically visit the whole city for this amount.  And is this isn’t good enough then at the far end of Canal Street is the Harrah’s Hotel and Casino.  This is where the High Rollers like hang out at during the Essence Festival.  The Harrah’s hotel and Casino also has a great buffet with every food you can name.

Poydras street is the place where the Saints dwell. www.superdome.com This is the street where New Orleans Superdome is located.  Also all of the concerts for the Essence Festival are at the Superdome (http://www.essence.com/festivals/2012/essence-music-festival/).  During the Essence Festival the street is lined with venders from miles around selling everything from flip flips to chicken and waffles.  I think that everyone should visit the city of New Orleans at least once in their life.
